Very Berry Dessert in a Hurry

Updated: May 12, 2021

I'm not sure you can call this a recipe it is so simple, but if you need a fast and healthy dessert this is it. It would be great to take to a picnic or party when you know the dessert table is going to be nothing but end to end sugar, butter, and egg concoctions.

I always keep a supply of fresh berries in my refrigerator as they are a "must have" every day food. They are great for snacking and can turn a dull bowl of cereal into a treat. In that way, you always have something to call "dessert".

In this berry bowl a 70% cacao chocolate bar is shaved over the berries to give that sweet chocolatey flavor without actually using much of the bar. Cacao beans are full of antioxidants so despite their high fat content they are a healthy whole food when used in moderation. Fresh berries are better for this dessert, but frozen could also be used.

Very Berry Dessert in a Hurry

Serves 4

1 cup blueberries

1 cup raspberries

1 cup blackberries

1 cup strawberries, sliced

2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

a small piece of a 70% cacao dark chocolate bar*

Place all berries in a medium bowl and drizzle with the orange juice. Toss to combine. Shave the chocolate bar over the berries using a microplane grater or the fine side of a box grater. Divide among 4 dessert bowls and enjoy!

*For extra decadence melt 1/2 of a 70% cacao dark chocolate bar or 3 tablespoons of dark chocolate chips (make sure they are dairy-free) and drizzle over the berries.
